Impacting Support: Advancing Philanthropy

Philanthropic gifts are essential to St. Luke’s Hospital’s continued strength as a healthcare provider of excellence. St. Luke’s received more than $2.864 million in charitable contributions in fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019) to support our healthcare ministry’s operating, capital and endowment needs.

The Friends of St. Luke’s and St. Luke’s Society

The Friends of St. Luke’s are at the forefront of our philanthropy. Friends initiatives raised $946,000 last year through individual gifts, corporate sponsorships and support through fundraising events. Friends members at the St. Luke’s Society level once again led the way with annual gifts of $1,000 and above. The Society’s 165 members contributed $360,000 in support of our healthcare ministry’s annual operating needs.

Friends of St. Luke’s Gala

The Ritz-Carlton St. Louis was the setting for the Friends of
St. Luke’s Hospital’s Art of Health Gala on October 13, 2018. This signature event brought our patient-centered culture to life in a fun, energetic and colorful way. Artists Brian Olsen and Jennifer Hayes delighted the event’s 370 guests by creating unique canvasses for auction during the gala evening, adding to the Gala’s $380,000 fundraising total.

Twenty-seven sponsors participated in the Art of Health Gala, with the Masterpiece Presenting sponsorship provided by the Centene Charitable Foundation.

Tour de Wellness

On Sunday, June 2, 2019, St. Luke’s welcomed 440 cyclists and 80 volunteers to the seventh annual Tour de Wellness-Ride for Heart Health. Hogan Transportation was the Tour’s Presenting Sponsor, and additional lead sponsors were The Staenberg Group and Staenberg Family Foundation, Murphy Company and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The cycling event offered three routes launching from and finishing at the St. Luke’s Desloge Outpatient Center. Participants enjoyed a post-ride celebration with music, food and health information booths.

Through sponsorships, registration fees and other donations, the 2019 Tour raised $71,000. Proceeds from the event supported the work of the St. Luke’s Heart and Vascular Institute in its continued development of treatment options, life saving research and community outreach initiatives to help decrease individuals’ risk of developing heart disease. Tour de Wellness is the only cycling event in the St. Louis region to raise awareness and support for heart health and wellness.

Young Professionals

The Young Professionals of St. Luke’s, a group of emerging community leaders from diverse career backgrounds and interests working together to support the hospital’s mission, hosted their annual Holiday Celebration at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten on Friday, November 2, 2018, to benefit the hospital’s Albert Pujols Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome.

More than 300 attendees enjoyed food, beverages, music, raffle items, a silent auction and performance by the Center’s choir. Proceeds from the evening supported the Center’s classes, equipment needs, speech therapy program and other services.

Keeping Friends Members Informed

As a benefit of membership, Friends of St. Luke’s and their guests are invited to participate in complimentary seminars throughout the year.

The Friends 2018-2019 speaker series featured programs on pain management, palliative care, healthy living during the holidays and Dine with the Docs – an event in which community members joined St. Luke’s physicians for dinner and roundtable discussions on several health topics.

Advancing Excellence with Exceptional Care Campaign

The Advancing Excellence with Exceptional Care Campaign for the hospital’s capital and endowment needs continued in its public phase over the past year. Gifts and pledges to the Campaign have supported construction of the new, 106,000-square foot Building B at the Mr. and Mrs. Theodore P. Desloge, Jr. Outpatient Center on the hospital’s west campus, capital improvements on the main hospital campus and
St. Luke’s Pediatric Care Center, and the establishment of the Gary Olson Endowment Fund to provide increased long-term support for our healthcare ministry’s core operating needs. Campaign donors are recognized and honored for their generous support through prominent displays in the hospital lobby and at the Desloge Outpatient Center.

At the close of the fiscal year, the Campaign had raised $39.1 million. St. Luke’s Hospital’s Board of Directors, senior team, physician community and our Friends organization comprise the Campaign Committee that is leading the fund drive to achieve its $40 million goal.
